Artisan Profile

Turkish towels, traditionally known as peshtamels or hammam towels, have been hand-loomed in Turkey for centuries. Their tightly woven fibers create a textile that is lighter and faster-drying than a traditional terry towel while remaining highly absorbent.

These towels are woven in small, family-owned workshops in the Denizli region of Turkey, where weaving remains an important source of livelihood and a craft passed through generations. The workshops use OEKO-TEX-certified natural fibers and non-harmful dyes, while the finishing tassels are hand-knotted by women working from their homes.

Each towel carries subtle evidence of the handmade process — small variations in weave and fringe that give every piece its own character.

Brindle Note:  With use and washing, Turkish cotton naturally softens and becomes even more absorbent. Machine wash cold with like colors and hang dry or tumble dry low. Avoid bleach and fabric softener.
